Experience and expertise to deliver

Child Protection Programmes

Development programmes relating to child protection are normally based on the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  In line with the recommendations of the 2006 UN Study on Violence Against Children, child protection programmes and interventions need to be linked to national child protection systems wherever possible and should aim to contribute to strengthening these systems, adapting to the country context as necessary.

Effective mechanisms for child protection at the family and community level are critical to the realisation of children’s protection rights and important components of national child protection systems.

GCPS offers a comprehensive approach, taking account of latest research and thinking, and provides practical assistance with project design, delivery and evaluation, as well as support in developing programme strategies, adapted to your organisation or country context.

GCPS has a particular interest and expertise in community-based child protection and has produced a number of publications, tools and resources on working with communities on child protection including Community Action for Child Protection This provides guidance on Community-Based Child Protection Mechanisms and how they operate, as well as principles and good practice criteria for external agencies seeking to support them.
